- Viking Johnson Tuner - Manual or Datasheet
|
A while ago I acquired a Johnson Viking matchbox from a good friend of mine. This tuner is the perfect choice for balanced antennas but of course you can feed any unbalanced system with it.
This tuner has got some interesting facts to tell which I won´t withhold from you: It formerly belonged to an UN-communications officer who used it at the UNO-Center in Vienna.
When for some reason he had to leave back to the USA he sold this tuner to my friend for only a view bucks. My friend did use it for some years but it ended up in a dark corner of a garage after a removal to another home. When I asked for some variable condensers among my friends to build a tuner myself I happend to find this - then dusty - goody. |
| It seems to handle full legal american powerlimit according to what I saw after unscrewing over 50 screws!
The only thing I had to repair was a broken insulator and to solder one sore spot. |
I´d like to know if someone could tell me how to optain a copy of the (possible) manual or if it is possible to receive a kind of datasheet for this wonderful piece of craft. |
Do you by any chance have any old magazines (e.g. QST...) where this tuner was
advertised?! I´d also like to know exactly what year this matchbox was built - as long as it is possible to say from the little information you got here.
|
Here are the few facts I can tell you about the Johnson Viking tuner:
- Name: Johnson Viking Kilowatt Matchbox
- Company Data: E. F. Johnson Company - Waseca Minnesota - USA
- Catalog NO.: 250-30
- Details: balanced two-wire, coaxial and single wire in/outputs
- Details: inside the Tuner I saw a 115Vac relay for switching a RX-antenna
- Details: 2 variable C and a switchable (fix) L (10, 15, 20, 40 and 80m)

I am trying to collect records of Austrian contesters for the following contests: |
- CQWWDX CW and SSB
- ARRL Int. DX CW and SSB
- WPX CW and SSB
|
|
It would be fine to prepare a list per year with the topscoring stations from OE in each possible categorie - to get an overview about Austrian records. If you are from Austria reading this, please submit me your score and multipliers, DXCC, QSOpoints etc. worked - no matter how big your score should be. Topscoring stations are very welcome!
Eventually you or your friend has access to a CD-ROM with data for a contest of the above mentioned ones - in this case please email me!!
Thanks for reading - and perhaps you can now help me to find the needed information!
