Just a few moments after everyone in Austria was celebrating new-year I hit the airwaves on the
1st of January 2001 signing OE75OHO. Everyone was curious about the meaning of "75" in my callsign! Now I am going to disclose the secret:
The ÖVSV 75 Award
Want to see how the Award looks like? You want to take a look at all the diplomas/awards by the Austrian Amateurradio Society? (Currently only available in German!) |
Y2K means "Year Twothousand" and should be familiar to all computer users - just remember the
press coverage during the last months of 1999 - the famous "millennium bug" and the fear of computercrashes all over the world. There have been a lot of different prefixes from a couple of DXCCs on the air during the year 2000 - all were in some way related to the millenium (remember OE2OOO? Operated by OE5NNN). Of course the Y2K-appendix dealt also with the year 2000. I didnt really use it until December 2000. No wonder everyone was trying to get into my log - EU and DX often rewarded me with nice pile-ups!
