IOTA Islands on the air DXpedition AS-013

Holiday DXpedition

7.February -- 21. Feb. 2001

Indian Ocean

back on air in Republic of Maldives

Island Kuredu and Island Kanuhura

IOTA AS-013

Barbara ( OE3YCB ) and Mike ( OE3MZC ) have visited two islands on the Maldives in February. Ministry of Science & Telecomunication in Male has issued temporary licenses 8Q7BZ and 8Q7MZ (same as in 1997-Dxpedition to Kuramathi Island ) Operation took place on all HF bands in SSB, PSK31 and SSTV on all bands that offered good propagation. Since it is a holiday-DXpedition most time has been used for snorcheling and diving or sunbathing. However, usually about 12:00 utc and around 06:00 utc was a good time for some pile-ups. Please send QSL via bureau or direct to OE1PYA.

Rep.Maldives in the INDIAN OCEAN

YAESU FT100 Transceiver and ACER 313TLaptop The equipment was a YAESU FT100 HF and VHF/UHF TRX and a Smartuner SGC 237 automatic tuner to make any lenght of wire between the palmtrees resonant on all HF bands.
For Digital Modes 8Q7BZ and 8Q7MZ did use a Laptop with Soundcard to operate in PSK31 , using DIGIPAN 1.6 software. This mode uses extremely narrow bandwith and is therefore especially designed for low power QRP contacts under difficult HF propagation conditions.

SSTV on 14230 and 21340 with JVCOMM32

Kuredu island IOTA AS-013 Mike, 8Q7MZ , did also operate in SSTV , transmitting pictures of nice beaches and underwater fauna. The software in use has been JVCOMM32 and GSHCP with a simple Hamcom-modem or Laptop soundcard. Transmission modes were mainly in Martin1, Scottie1 or Scottie DX on 21.340 Mhz.

Nice pictures from Poland, Sweden, Turkey and Djibouty have been received.

preferred operating frequencies of 8Q7BZ and 8Q7MZ:

14260, 18160, 21260, 24960, 28460 in SSB

10140, 14070, PSK31

14230, 21340 SSTV

predicted propagation is good on higher HF bands !
Thank you for not working us more than one time per band ! You gave others also a fair chance.
