Radio Club Leuven IOTA-contest 2016 Ameland EU-038
Radio Club Leuven
The 'Radio Club Leuven' is one of the oldest (since 1927!) and biggest radio clubs in Belgium. Since a few years, the club puts considerable efforts in training its members in radio contesting via its own amateur station with the callsign ON4CP.
This year, it was decided to activate an island during the 2016 Islands On The Air contest. As Belgium has no natural islands by itself, the Dutch island "Ameland", one of the smallest and northernmost Waddenislands, was chosen as the destination for this mini-dxpedition. In the IOTA-contest, the West Frisian Islands like Ameland are referenced as EU-038.
Both the main station and the multiplier station will be running under the callsign "PA/ON4CP" from the same location in the northeastern part of the island (locator square JO23wk) at about 1m asl!
On Ameland, there is only one lighthouse, "Bornrif", wich may also be activated by some team members during the weekend.
Team
The team is composed of 11 amateur radio operators:

Some team members are very experienced in contesting, others a bit less - but providing some hands-on training and coaching is just the purpose of this club event.
We hope to make many hundreds of HF-radio contacts all over the world with both stations.
All amateur stations are invited to contact us; actual frequencies may be found on the DX-cluster.
We would like to ask other stations to respect correct radio procedures and to have some patience with our junior operators.

Operating schedule and bands
Time schedule
We plan to arrive on Ameland on Friday July 29th and to have at least one station on the air by the evening.
Both stations will be active during the contest (Saturday July 30th at 12:00 UTC - Sunday July 31st at 13:59 UTC), and possibly till Sunday evening. We will take part in the "Multi 2"-category in mixed mode. On Monday August 1st, the team will be leaving the island to return home.
Bands
We will be running two separate stations, one in SSB, the other both in SSB and in CW.
During the contest, both stations will work exclusively on the contest bands and partitions according to the rules. Before and after the actual contest, other HF-bands may also be activated.
Most probably, some individual operators will also bring their transceivers and work with their own callsign while they are off-duty. If time allows, the Bornriff lighthouse may be activated, probably on sunday afternoon ( ILLW NL032 / ARLHS NET001 ).
QSL-info
A special QSL-card will be designed for this event.
