Echolink is free software that allows Amateur Radio stations to communicate with one another over the Internet, using voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology. The Simplex Animals currently operate four Echolink nodes. Nodes One and Two are located in the West Los Angeles area of Southern California on 223.420 MHz. Node Three is located in Santa Maria, California on the KA6BFB repeater, 146.175 Mhz. Node Four is located in Rathdrum, Idaho on 147.500 Mhz. Animals that reside beyond simplex operating range can communicate with the main group from anywhere, by using the Echolink program along with their computer’s microphone and speakers. The Echolink program controls a radio transceiver via the internet, allowing the remote users to speak with, and listen to, Animals in West Los Angeles. Our first system became operational on 4/16/2004 and was an instant success. Stop by and say hi on N6QQM-L !
