Northern New York Contest Club- the "unofficial" page

The Northern New York Contest Club was formed (I think) in the summer of 1998 in a meeting around Fred Bennett WN2R's kitchen table.

The charter members were (as I remember it):

The object of the NNYCC was to organize a group of dedicated contesters in the NNY section (admittedly starting out locally).  Too often, the contester feels at once an outcast of and a slave to his "general purpose" club.  An outcast due to the interest (some would say "obsession") with contesting, a slave because, come Field Day, his operating expertise is expected to carry the event through for the club.  The new Contest Club would ensure that all members were ACTIVE contesters, committed to participating in radiosport.

We're not a clique or a cult or a secret society... just a group of hams who are committed to contesting.

Definition of commitment compared to involvement by example:

In a breakfast of bacon and eggs, the chicken was "involved."  The pig was "committed."
The Northern New York Contest Club is an ARRL affiliated club in the Northern New York section of the ARRL.

Our club callsign is W2NNY.  You'll hear us active under the club call during November Sweeps, ARRL DX contest and June VHF contest (see the Panther Mountain Expedionary Force).

During the past year, the club has also done multi-op under NS2P (WPX 2002 Phone) and NT2W (WPX 2002 CW).  See link for NT2W/WPX2002
