Update - 0430Z 10 Sep 00: Route 66 On the Air!
Boy, is the action hot in the Route 66 event! Early on the second evening of the opening weekend, we've heard stations all along the highway (though there are still a couple we've not yet found), and they seem to be catching lots of action, just as we are here in Flagstaff. Several stations have tallied QSOs in the several-hundred range, and that's just for the group operations. There are also lots of members of the 12 clubs operating individually from their shacks, so there should be LOTS of QSOs to tally up when this thing's over!
Here in Flagstaff, we set up this morning in front of the historic Museum Club roadhouse bar, about 20 feet from the old highway itself . Boy was that a noisy place to operate! The traffic zipping by, and trains every 10 minutes or so, made acoustic noise a pain. We retreated inside KA7TDH's trailer to operate, but that didn't cure the QRN we had on the airwaves -- all those neon signs, I guess. After a few hours, we moved up to Buffalo Park, high on a hill overlooking the city. It was a beautiful afternoon to be out, and we spent several hours enjoying the QSOs and lovely day.
We're in our shacks tonight, though, so back to the action now. Hope to see you out there!
