AC8E and I are planning to visit the Findlay (OH) hamfest Sunday morning, followed by a side trip a few miles west to the grid corner of EN70-71-80-81 for a low key rover operation in the VHF QSO Party. I understand that this part of Ohio is as flat as a pancake, though not as flat as Kansas (http://www.improbable.com/airchives/paperair/volume9/v9i3/kansas.html ), but does anybody have any recommended VHF locations, particularly in EN70 and EN71? We may also get on from EN90, and I plan some activity from home in EN91 on Saturday. I'll have 6-2-222-432, as well as a peanut whistle on 1296. 73 - Jim K8MR

I will be portable QRP in EM65(ld or me) for the contest. When you're not busy look for the little signal ! Tnx,73, Tom W4RXR

Wow, it really looks from the increased chatter that there is going to be lots of activity this upcoming weekend. I'm thrilled to be a part of it (as a relative newcomer). This year I will have the lower 10 bands, 50 - 10368 and will be operating from home QTH in FN10we. I would be happy to sked with anyone who wants my grid. Sounds like rovers will be a big part of this contest and that's a great thing. Good luck to all! 73, Phil K3TUF FN10we

I will be active from a hilltop in EN50rl as a Single-Op Portable (QRP) for most of Sunday if all goes as planned. I will have all bands from 144 MHz through 10 GHz. 50 MHz hasn't been very profitable for me in the last few contests so I'm still debating if I want to take it along, too. 73, Zack W9SZ

To All, After an absence of a year and half, The Lighthouse Rover is again taking to the roads for a VHF contest. However, we are going back to our 1995 Jeep Cherokee to do so. Our 2000 Subaru (the main rover vehicle) is on the verge of blowing its head gasket, so we've had to retrofit the installation back into the Jeep, where it all started some years ago. Karen and I plan to cover the following grids: Saturday FN20qp FN21qh FN31dn FN30?? Sunday FN20vt FN21hb FN10xx or xw FM19av FN00rg We will have bands ABCDE on the air. For up to the minute information on our plans, surf on over to http://www.n2mh.net/rover.htm and follow the link to the September, 2005 web page. 73, Mark, N2MH and Karen

I've been made an offer I can't refuse and my original plans to rove through southern Ontario have been tossed out the window! Instead, I will be operating portable from a location in EN95 for the entire contest, or at least up until the last few hours. VE3FIN, who recently moved to Parry Sound, Ontario has offered to let me use his property to set up and operate from. Good news, he's quite anxious to get on the air and do some weak signal work once he's finished building his new house. Hopefully, EN95 will be less rare in the future. The coords he gave me are 45 deg 20m N, 80 deg W. Apparently, the 80th west meridian runs through his property, which theoretically means I could shift the base of my portable mast over a few feet and operate from FN05 as well. I guess that would make me a rover instead of portable...fine. I'll be on: - 6m: 100w into a Moxon beam - 2m: 50w into stacked PAR Omniangles - 70cm: 100w into stacked 8-element quagis All antennas will be up on a 30 ft mast. E-mail me for skeds. Good luck and good propagation this weekend! 73, Ken Alexander, VE3HLS www.ve3hls.com

Last week there was some debate as to us going to the mountain for the Sept VHF QSO Party due to fuel cost/availability, however we have made the commitment to see it through. Hope to work everyone on 6, 2, 222, 432 and maybe experimentally on 1296. Don't forget to look our way. We will be at 3,692 ft elevation in SE TN in far eastern EM75 just Southeast of Tellico Plains. If you would like to come join us and operate with us, then shoot me an email and I can get you directions. The more the better. 73....Rusty NE4ME

K9TMS and K9PLS will be doing a husband/wife rove in Northern IL and eastern Wisconsin for next week ends contest (2 for the price of one). We will have the following bands: ABCD9E and possibly 10g however that system has not been proven to function YET!. Our plan now is to hit EN53/63 area first on Saturday afternoon. If we see significant interest in Badger land north of the Cheddar Curtain this may become EN54/64. Due to gas prices I don't want to waste the energy if there will not be enough contacts to be had from the northern grids. We will then work back south spending time in each of the 4 corners area we encounter. Sunday we will be hitting the EN51/61/52/62 corners during the afternoon in the CHicago area. I would like to entertain more grids but the old motor home only get 10 miles to the gallon and I would prefer not to wind up with a 2nd mortgage in gas as a result of the contest. We are also trying to get other members of the Stoned Monkeys to join in on a pack rove effort Hope to see you on the bands next week end. 73 de Tom K9TMS and Penny K9PLS [email protected]
