The Bartholomew County RACES/ARES provides emergency and disaster communications
to support the American Red Cross
here in Bartholomew and Brown Counties. We also help support the local
Emergency Management Agency when needed for a local emergency or disaster.
Other services that depend on our services are the National
Weather Service and Federal Emergency
Management Agency and also the Indiana State Emergency Management Agency.
RACES/ARES organizations operate in support of state and local emergency
management and are setup and governed by ARRL.
ARES teams participate in severe weather observation (Skywarn),
Search and Rescue operations (NASAR),
and support of many major public events. Just about any situation where
reliable communication links are needed to replace or enhance existing
communications you will find Amateur Radio. In some areas RACES and ARES
are combined.
