Monthly Arizona Section News Summary - April 2005I would like to introduce myself to anyone that does not know me. My name is Tom Fagan WB7NXH. As of April 1st 2005, I am your new Section Manager. First off I would like to thank Cliff for 12 years of being our Section Manager. He did a fantastic job. Over the last few months I have been working with Cliff learning all of the aspects of being Section Manager. There have been a few other organizational changes here in the Arizona Section. Assistant Section Manger: Cliff Hauser KD6XH is now an ASM. Affiliated Club Coordinator: Mary Ahls W4NZJ is the new ACC effective February 15th. Mary was the ACC for Georgia Section for the last two year and takes over from Bruce Makas K1MY. Section Emergency Coordinator: Rick Aldom W7STS took over for me as SEC effective January 1st. Technical Coordinator: Larry Brown W7LB takes over for me as TC, effective April 1st. District Emergency Coordinator: - Cris McBride KB7QXQ has taken over as DEC for Navajo County replacing David Epley, N9CZV. - Robert Sidebottom K0LQB has taken over as DEC for Yuma County replacing George C. Scott III K7YMA. Webmaster: Luis Martinez KD7GMK took over the QSL.net ARRL Arizona webpage from me effective January 1st. Proposed State of Arizona Amateur License Plate For the last couple of years, a group of Hams headed by John KC7IM has been working with the Arizona Department of Transportation to get a "Special Vanity Plate" for Amateur Radio Operators. A design was submitted and was approved by the State. However, before production of the plate could be initiated, an injunction was filed by a group, which halted any new vanity plates. Apparently, this group had also requested a "special vanity plate" which was denied by the State. Anyway, our plate is hanging in limbo pending the outcome of the lawsuit and/or lifting of the injunction. Hamfests: Cliff reported that the Yuma and Scottsdale Hamfests were great. There were a lot of sellers and buyers. Arizona Amateur Radio Club (AARC) will hold their hamfest at DeVry Institute on April 16th. The Hamfest will be at 2149 W. Dunlap just East I-17 - Opens 6:00 A.M. I will be there with all of the ARRL material. Look for the ARRL Flag. Cochise Amateur Radio Association (CARA) will have their Hamfest on May 7 at their club Site on Moson Road in Sierra Vista. http://www.qsl.net/k7rdg/ Ten-Ten International will hold their convention in Mesa AZ on June 8-12th, 2005. For more information go to: http://www.ten-ten.org/ Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about ARRL. If your club or group has an activity or event that would be of interest to other hams throughout our section please email me with the specifics. 73, Tom Fagan WB7NXH
