How Much Your Touch Meant Then

One night you came to bed quite late.
And as I lay there silent and unmoving,
You lay down gently, so as not to wake me,
Then reached across and softly touched my face.
I did not move, for you thought I was sleeping;
I couldn't let you think that I'd deceive you.
But my heart leapt, and I lay awake for hours
Reflecting on this soft unspoken tribute
And moved to tears that you would be so gentle
And love me so completely as you did.
I only wish that I'd known how to tell you
How much your touch meant then, and always will.
