Portrait

I need no longer gaze
Upon your picture
For your features are forever
Embossed upon my mind.
The gentleness and warmth
Of your countenance and figure
Are as much a part of me
As when our bodies were one.
My waking hours are filled
With a longing for our future,
And when I sleep, I replay
Every moment of our past.
The only pain I know
Is the present. For apart
We are each diminished,
Both less whole.
I shall go on. My strength comes
From closing my eyes
And feeling you beside me.
For your loving is indelibly
Embossed upon my soul.
