And Yet You Are My Lara

I'm no Yurii Zhivago,
Thought I pretend to be,
For my poems may not weaken your resistance.
And yet you are my Lara,
A mystery to me
In whose arms I find the meaning of existence.

And if our love is strong enough
To take us through today
There can never be a limit to tomorrow.
If I can only touch you
With a tenth of what I say,
That's enough to bring a purpose to my sorrow.

Should my attempts to touch you
Bring you nothing but a smile,
There'd be little to be gained from the endeavor.
Yet if you will remain with me
For more than just a while
We will surely learn the meaning of forever.

So Lara, let me be a source
Of solace and of hope.
You may ask me when, but never question whether.
For I will stand beside you
As impatiently we grope
With the secrets of the universe, together.
