The poems in this collection span a period of thirty years, two wives, and too few lovers. They depict my harshest realities and fondest fantasies, and I leave it to you to discern which poem represents which. The common theme (more common than I care to admit) is that I function best when half a couple. I guess that's true of all of us. And how the fulfillment of so basic a need enriches and complicates our lives! You'd think that I'd have learned by now to avoid entangling alliances, but that's just not in my constitution. For I am only alive when I am in love.
