I've Stopped Counting Days

I've stopped counting days
Since you came to me,
For each brings me closer
To the time you must go.

I've stopped counting days
Since last we kissed.
To enumerate my emptiness
Exaggerates its importance.

When you're away
I no longer count
The days 'til you return.
I'd rather be surprised.

When you are back
I try not to count
The days you will stay.
They will end soon enough.

I can no longer count
How long I've loved you.
I cannot recall when
You were not there for me.

I've stopped counting days
Long ago,
For each one is a gift,
Precious beyond measure.
