That Wasn't There Before

There is a sadness in your eyes
That wasn't there before.
I pretend not to notice
For I don't want you to tell me
Until you are ready.

There is a softness in your voice
That wasn't there before.
It's as though you would show me
Things of great importance
But do not know how.

There is a hunger in your touch
That wasn't there before.
If you let me stand by you
While you work out your secret
That would be best.

There is a longing when we kiss
That wasn't there before.
I should find it moving, yet
I sense that you long for
Another, not for me.

There is a distance when we love
That wasn't there before.
I must not ignore it,
For nothing matters more to me
Than bringing you back.
