If Shakespeare had survived to modern times
He would have been a rapper quite sublime.
His rhythm, so distinctive and unique
Would juxtapose a strong percussive beat.
I see him now, reciting on the stage
A poem filled with vehemence and rage.
Instead of gentle sonnets, he would write
Of violence in the streets by dark of night.
Were Shakespeare but inclined to simply rap,
No student would be forced to learn his crap.
But Shakespeare was Elizabethan. He
Could only write To Be Or Not To Be,
While me, I snap my fingers, tap my feet;
My credo is To Beat Or Not To Beat.
