Anniversary Poem

I can't believe it's only been a year
That you have shared my home, my bed, my life.
It seems as though you've always been the one
Who's shared my happy days and languid nights,
And held me when the storms within me raged
And buoyed me up when I was feeling down.

I can't remember when you were not there
To gently soothe my troubles and my fears,
To heighten my arousal and delight
In everything that's beautiful and bright.

And if you are not with me to the end
I'll curse the years which I must spend alone,
Despise myself for sending you away
And praise the fates which brought you to my side
If only for a moment, or a year.

There's nothing left for me to do tonight
But thank you for the meaning you have brought
To everything I see and touch and feel,
For you have given purpose to my life
And softened the most cynical of hearts.

Are you aware how deeply you are loved,
How quickly and completely you have turned
My world around -- how full you've filled my heart?
I can't believe it's only been a year!
