Just After Dawn

My fondest desire
Has finally been realized.
Waking from slumber,
I find you beside me
Face bathed in moonlight
A smile on your lips
And a dream in your heart
Which I know I have shared with you
Just after dawn.

I'm sorry to wake you
For your dreams are precious,
But must let you know
I am proud that the source
Of your dream, of your smile
Is the love that I feel
Which grows stronger each day,
Engulfing me totally
Just after dawn.

And the truth of my longing
Will never diminish.
I never need fear
Reaching out to caress you
And finding you gone.
At last you are freed
From the arms of the husband
Who held without touching you
Just after dawn.

I knew that the fates
Would bring us together!
We'll live to the fullest
The dream which surrounds us
Awake and in slumber.
We no longer need
To await the great pleasure
Of waking contentedly
Just after dawn.

Now that we are one
With our love free to grow
I shall ever be satisfied
Closing my eyes
And seeing your smile.
That smile is felt deeply
As I lie in shadow,
Complete more than ever now,
Just after dawn.
