I am your April fool,
Hiding behind smile and jest
Momentous thoughts that plague me.
I am your April fool,
Drawn to the warmth of your May,
Rejecting the reality of my own September.
I am your April fool,
Begging you take seriously
Our transitory nature.
I am your April fool,
Surprising you with a kiss
While desiring far more.
I am your April fool,
Hopelessly oblivious
To the folly of my ways.
I am your April fool,
Praying you look upon me
With compassion but not pity.
I am your April fool,
Deftly ignoring the laughter of those
Who see me as I am.
I am your April fool.
