It Would Not Be Appropriate
It would not be appropriate
To tell you how I feel
For you're married to another.
He's the father of your children
And although I'd like to show you
That you could have done far better
I shall not, because it would not be appropriate.
It would not be appropriate
To sing to you of life,
For your song is for your husband.
You have given him commitment
And although your needs are greater
Than his power to fulfill you
I shall stay my song; it would not be appropriate.
It would not be appropriate
To promise you a world
Full of joy and understanding
For you've chosen this existence
And at times it makes you happy
Though you know there's something lacking
Which I can't provide. It would not be appropriate.
It would not be appropriate
To live without your love
Or to sublimate our feelings
For some ancient code of honor
When I know that your desire is
No less pressing than my passion
So I'll not give up -- it would not be appropriate.
