I met my love in a grocery shop
Selling pickles and bagels and bottles of pop.
She tried to sell me asparagus tips,
And I fell at once for her ruby red lips.
Chorus:Green stamps are what she gave,
So green stamps are what I took.
Green stamps are what I save,
So I pasted them into my green stamp book.
I kept on shopping there many a year.
Though I needed the groceries, my motive was clear.
I really just wanted to see her, so
My collection of green stamps began to grow.
Chorus
One day, as I was completing a page,
She said, "discount coupons are all the rage."
And then she cooed in a voice so sweet,
"I think soon green stamps will be obsolete."
Chorus
I took my books to the S&H Store,
And was shocked to see it was there no more.
Though all my green stamps are worthless now,
I remember my checkout clerk anyhow.
Chorus
Return to Deja Vu Once More
