Ten-Tec and Heil Sound are pleased to announce a new joint venture to produce what we both feel is the finest sounding microphone available for Amateur Radio, STUDIO ONE. With the imminent release of the new Ten-Tec ORION transceiver, we commissioned Heil Sound to create a microphone for Ten-Tec that would take full advantage of ORION's superb transmit audio capabilities. In response, audio guru Bob Heil K9EID created the new Heil Sound Studio One element and housed it in an all-new sleek black zinc die-cast shell. Bob tells about this terrific new product in his own words: "This new STUDIO ONE microphone has definitely smoother sound over the Heil GOLDLINE element and matches perfectly with the SSB transmit equalization system designed into the new ORION."

The STUDIO ONE is a professional-quality dynamic microphone. STUDIO ONE is a cardioid type full-range microphone with internal breath blast filters. The full range element exhibits a wide frequency response of 50 Hz through 14 kHz. Element response is tailored specifically for full-range SSB, AM, and FM, requiring a flat response over a very wide frequency range but with a nice balance of highs and lows. Its wide frequency response features a +6 dB midrange boost providing that all important speech articulation and a nice +2 dB rise at 110 Hz. This high quality microphone element produces a very smooth, live sound for SSB. The output impedance of STUDIO ONE is 600 ohms @ 1000 Hz.

STUDIO ONE features a soft-touch PTT button on the microphone body, utilizing internal gold-plated contacts. Foot-switch or hand-held PTT operation also are available with the Heil FS-1 or Heil HS-1 optional accessories. The microphone element is wired straight through for continuous VOX operation without having to lock down the PTT button on the microphone.

While commissioned specifically for the ORION, the new STUDIO ONE is suitable for use with any modern Ten-Tec HF transceiver or can be used with other transceiver brands with an appropriate microphone connecting cable attached. STUDIO ONE requires a Heil CC-1-[X] cable to connect to your HF transceiver. CC-1-T is available for Ten-Tec transceivers, other CC-1-[X] cables for connection of STUDIO ONE to other radio brands will be available in the near future.
