Alexander County ARES/RACES Skywarn Net Format
 
 

Standby Level I Mode (Activated when there are severe weather watches for Alexander and/or
surrounding counties)
 
 

[Script] This is (your callsign) activated the Alexander County ARES/RACES SKYWARN net in
the standby mode. The National Weather Service has indicated the possibility of severe weather in
this area. The SKYWARN net is in a level one standby mode at this time and the repeater is free for
normal use; however, a SKYWARN net control operator will be standing by for any severe weather
reports. We do ask that all stations keep their transmissions short and leave longer breaks between
transmissions for SKYWARN traffic.

The current watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service are: (Read warnings, then
read watches if available).
 
 

The National Weather Service is looking for reports of severe weather. This includes Hail, dime sized
or larger. Winds which cause damage. Flooding where none regularly occurs. Rotating funnel clouds
or tornadoes. Stations are asked to report any of these conditions to the SKYWARN net control.
 
 

The next scheduled announcement will be in 30 minutes.
 
 

Active Level II Mode (Activated when there are severe weather warnings issued for Alexander
and/or surrounding counties).
 
 

[Script] This is (your callsign) Net Control for the Alexander County ARES/RACES SKYWARN
net. The net is currently in LEVEL TWO ACTIVE MODE. This is a directed net and all traffic
should be directed to the Net Control Station.
 
 

[Establish liaison station with the 145.35 Charlotte Area Skywarn Net if it is active]
 
 

Is there a station on frequency that can establish contact with the Charlotte Area Skywarn Net on
145.35 and act as liaison with that net?
 
 

Is there any station on frequency with severe weather to report? [Acknowledge].

III Emergency mode and the repeater is available only for severe weather reports and other
life-threatening information. Stations with other traffic, please stand by.
 
 

[Make this announcement only as necessary to control the frequency. Accept reports of se vere
weather and make sure the liaison station forwards to the Charlotte Area Skywarn Net on 145.35/R.
