6 meters has been a lot of fun so far. The antenna I have
up currently is a 7 element Force12 yagi. It is up about 50 feet.
Was first introduced to the band when a friend of mine (Joe,
KE4WUT) did a single band entry in the June VHF QSO Party. I
provided some equipment and watched while he made the contacts. I
could see then that this band can be like a contest when it is open.
The band openings don't last long sometimes and the QSO's can be fast and
furious. I like that. The first band opening that
I have caught was during the meteor shower on Nov. 17, 1997. That
was fun. There would be 2 - 4 minute bursts of activity and then
it would die again. In about a 3 hour period I was able to
make 55 Q's and worked 44 grid squares. At that time
I decided to take the challenge to see if I could work 100 grids in 1 months
time. Well, didn't quite make it... Caught several band openings
and missed a few too. Was able to work my first 100 in just a little
over 5 weeks time. I'm happy.
