The infamous 1979 Spratly DXpedition
AMBOYNA CAY , April 1, 1979 This was our planned destination.... it was expected to be uninhabited. It wasn't. Shortly after this photograph was taken, 4 rounds were fired from the gun emplacement located in the center of the island, under the arch and to the right of the quanset hut. The rounds missed and we sailed away, taking heed to the obvious warning! Team on board: K4SMX, K1MM, VK2BJL, KP2A, N2OO and N4WW Capt. Jack Binder (now KB7NW) and XYL Judith Binder |
