     The local Marlborough Emergency Management Agency is looking for licensed Ham Radio operators and or volunteers for the CERT group.  If you are interested in Emergency Communications and or serving the community at Civic functions, and Emergency operations where your skills and energy can make a contribution, please consider joining the local Marlborough Emergency Management Team.   We hold informal monthly meetings the third tuesday of the month September thru June at 7:00 pm at the Marlborough Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located at the Central Fire station at 215 Maple st. (Entrance is thru the side door faceing the parking lot.)

1. Upcoming Events & NEWS Items.

1.March meeting was held via net check in on N1EM repeater.
   April meeting was via online meeting with net checkin to N1EM later.

2. Cape and Islands ARES drill took place Jan 25th. Marlborough EOC was activated and operational as an off Cape Communications site. Ten MERT team members were present and active. The HF Screwdriver antenna has some issues yet to be resolved.

3. New EMA Shelter Trailer has arrived along with a batch of new cots. During the February meeting two different teams practiced assembling the cots.

4.FEMA has updated the Basic CERT training curriculum. The updated CERT Basic Training can be found at

5. A Central MA ARES group has been formed based in Stow, MA. with a monthly operating net. All stations feel free to check in. Stow EMA - W1STO 147.435 PL 110.9 Simplex, (2nd Tues of the month @ 7PM)

2. FYI

1. A group email mailing list know as MERT has been created to send group emails to the entire EOC membership. This will allow members to send a group email by just addressing the email to MERT. An email outlining the full procedure has been sent to all members.

You will need to register for a FEMA ID if you do not have one yet. It is a very simple procedure. On the main page left side, click on Register for FEMA SID, this will take you to the registration page where you will be assigned a User number and you will create your own password.

Recomended Courses are:

IS-100.C - Intro to Incident Command System
IS-200.C - Basic Incident Command System
IS-700.B - Intro to "NIMS" National Incident Management System
IS-800.C - National Response Framework (not avail yet)
