The scent of you still permeates the space
Where late you sat before my eager eye
Captivating, without knowing why,
My full attention with your woman's wiles,
Touching me, if only with your smiles.
I would have held you close and bid you stay
Forever, for a fortnight, for a day,
For howsoever long it takes to play
Out memories to cherish by degrees.
But I could sooner seize the summer breeze.
Too brief the time together we have shared,
For me to quite convince myself you cared.
I should have voiced my feelings from the start.
Tomorrow you and I must surely part.
I've never held you. Still you hold my heart.
