WriteLog Setup with the FT-1000MP
I am currently using WriteLog ver. 10.22b with my FT1000MP for contest logging. I am using
a SoundBlaster PCI128 as the voice keyer and controlling the rig via COM1: - CW output is via
LPT1: through a simple NPN level converter to the key in jack in parallel with my keyer
output. I use the voice keyer only for function key messages, not to actually spell out
individual letters.
Interconnects
The SoundBlaster speaker output is fed to the MP's phone patch input through a Radio Shack
audio isolation transformer. The interconnect cable is wound several times around two ferrite
toroids: one at the computer end and one at the rig before the isolation transformer. I find
the MP rather sensitive to RF induced audio distortion and needed both toroids to keep the
audio clean.
The Heil HC5 microphone is connected to the mic in of the sound card. To play it safe, I use
a ferrite toroid at the sound card end of the mic cable.
Audio output from the MP's 2nd headphone jack is fed through another Radio Shack audio isolation
transformer into the line in jack of the sound card (ferrite again at the sound card end). This
allows recording of the entire contest on hard disk using WriteLog's record capability (a 15GB
hard drive helps here).

Comments:
1. If WriteLog keys the rig fine, but transmit is not released at the end of the
message, I've found rebooting the computer fixes this.
2. If WriteLog gets stuck displaying a fixed frequency and mode, independent of the rig,
I've found two possible solutions. First check for the "MEM" or "M TUNE" indicators.
If they are on, press the VFO/MEM switch once or twice to bring VFO A back into the display
frequency, which should then match WriteLog's frequency. If that doesn't fix it, then a
CPU reset of the MP may be necessary. Page 64 of the MP manual describes the CPU reset.
