Dear Rod N0RC,

Thank you the 14.060MHz 2-way QRP QSO long before. Very
impressed with your Rock-Mites site, here I send you several
files to present my Rock-Mite 40. I would be very happy if you
show these in your web site.

Note:

The JL1KRA's Rock-Mite 40 is using a TAKACHI SW-125 plastic case
$2 in Akihabara. Since I decided to put everyting into a box, 9V
battery, paddles and even a small speaker was integrated to the
box. 9V battery is switchable to an external DC plug. Paddles
are coming from disassembled MK-44. A thin 0.1W speaker is used
to monitor the QRP frequency. Strong stations and sidetone are
audible in a room. Avoid several connections, just hook up an
antenna, It enables to the air immediately.

Two anntenas are prepared for the RM-40. One is telescopic 7MHz
whip antenna with loading. The other is 7MHz dipole. These are
the everything I need for the QRV, but except the sheep.

Sincerely yours,

JL1KRA Junichi Nakajima

Hi Rod, N0RC

I attached the post to QRP-L and additional images
explaining the RMK-PIC installation. If you like,
please use themt in youe web.

Hi All,

Received the RMK-PIC which enhance the ability of the famous Rock-Mite,
Here I briefly report my installation.

Although one must disassemble the Rockmite, The installation is
straightforward. Two modifications are needed to mount the RMK-PIC.

One is the 10K-ohm pull up to 5V of Pin-4 of RMK-PIC. You just
add the resistor between the Pin 1-4.
Another mod is variable pot with two resistors in hot/cold end
installation around "dah" input of RMK-PIC.
There will be several choice to do this. If you need a external
pod control, you would drill a hole to your chassis.
Since I am not frequently change my keying speed, I placed a small
variable resistor pod just above the dah input of the RMK board.
>From the pod, two resistors are connected to 5V and Ground.
I choose pick up points at the bypass capacitor lands nearby
the U3 (RMK-PIC). These modifications are done within 30 minutes.

Hooked up the DC, I can here the "FB" announce from the RMK-PIC.
Selecting the pod calibration from functions and confirmed it works.
I had been using the PK-x series keyer and all of the other functions
are already friendly. Not only the pod-speed control, but the
Bug/Straight mode, iambic A/B, reverse paddle, Beacons
and non volatile Message memories are added to the Rock-Mite.
You can use additional function by the combination pressing of the mem
switch and paddle(dit,dah).

Soon I recorded my CQ messages msg 1 and 2. Now the RMK-40 is CQing
by itself continuously with beacon function. This will be absolutely
useful in field operation.

As a CPU upgrading of PCs, the RMK-PIC installation will bring you
a lot of fun to your RMK-40 again.
I am not related to JHB, but this is one of recommendation
to enjoy your RMK!
In addition, you can play with the original PIC by making simple
keyer or transmitter :-).

I really thank Chuck of JHB who provide us such nice PIC of well
integrated function and the lowest price we have never seen.
