STORM SPOTTER NETWORK

ACTIVATION CRITERIA & PROTOCOL

Members of the Delaware County Storm Spotter Network should always keep abreast of latest weather conditions and forecasts in order to be prepared for field activation with little or no warning. Formal activation of the network will occur if any of the following conditions are met:

• The Storm Prediction Center issues a severe weather watch;
• The National Weather Service issues a severe weather warning for Delaware County;
• A severe weather warning is issued for either Madison, Henry, or Blackford Counties and the storm for which the warning was issued is moving toward Delaware County;

• The Delaware County Emergency Management Agency Directory gives an order to activate the network;

or

• Dr. David Arnold gives an order to activate the network.
  
  

All members of the Delaware County Storm Spotter Network will consider the network automatically activated under either condition 1 or 2.

Upon formal activation of the network, storm spotters are to report to:

• their designated spotter location; or

• to a location that would best facilitate observation of the storm event.
  
  

Upon arriving, all storm spotters are to report to the office of the Delaware County Emergency Management Agency.
