Long Mountain - Beacon Ring, GW/MW-026 - 408m ASL - SJ 264 058 - OS Explorer 216 -
1 SOTA point
Our next stop of our multi-summit day on Sunday 1st October 2006 was on the road
along the ridge of Long Mountain
and the very short flat walk to Beacon Ring GW/MW-026, a higher top than the
earlier Moel y Golfa GW/MW-027, but nothing like the
level of effort or satisfaction. We set up on the East facing ramparts of the
fort, and suffered a sharp rain shower. This time we set up properly with FT-817
and SOTA Beam, but found contacts harder to come by than earlier. We broke into
the magnificent Baxters Cullen Sink - "Luxury
Cream of Smoked Haddock Chowder" - and the dried apricots, while Jimmy went to
"find" the trig point. He insists on finding it every time.
This was a very quick activation, as we were keen to get as many summits done as
possible today. Next we were off to Stingwern Hill
GW/MW-030. Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with
2.5 watts in our 12 minute blast on the air:
