After being absent from the hobby for about 5 years, I moved QTH and after a while decided to fire up the remaining radio I had - the Icom IC-7000. I was delighted that I had space to have a reasonable wire antenna and a SGC ATU that still works. Have had this ATU for several years and it's never missed a beat. Whilst I was getting out ok and enjoying reacquainting myself with radio friends I hated the radio. The complex menu system with submenus upon submenus was awful. Especially since my last experience was with the Flexradio Flex 5000. I really missed the Panadaptor. The itch grew… and I eventually went down and spoke to Peter at Walters & Stanton.
I looked at what Flexradio had been doing and saw that they appeared to have gone to a proprietary software system that involved ongoing cost. I also saw that Apache Labs had started to sell their own SDR radio that involved open source software. The more I read the more interested I became. Eventually I drove down to Walters and Stanton and had a chat with Peter - ever such a nice chap. I took the plunge and bought the baby Apache Labs Anan-10 radio. Here begins a new journey……
