WELCOME
TO LU1YNEs
SITE!!!
HI THERE! MY NAMES ED. THIS IS MY PAGE.
AUTO-BIOGRAPHY & INFO
My name is Edwin Nicols
Koessler, but Im called ED more frequently in radio.
I started doing radio when I was 10 years old or so. At the age of 14 I
was an amateur radio operator. I am 18 years old. Not
my father, nor my mother, nor any relative is a ham. Stupid, senseless
legislation in my country doesnt allow boys&girls less than 12 yrs old to
have a licence.
I was born the 12th of October of 1986, here where I live, in a town called San
Martn de los Andes, in the province of Neuqun, in the Southern part of
Argentina,
and in the North-Western part of the region called Patagonia. It is a 30k
population community located 40km from the border with Chile, dispersed along about 15km in a valley and facing Lacar
Lake at the end of it. If you want to get to know the place where I live click
here.
My
station has improved quite a lot since the last
actualization of this page -which was
quite some time ago, because of some problems with my local ISP-; I nowadays own
a YAESU FT-1000MP with MD-100 mic and DVS-2 digital recorder. I installed both INRAD
mods in it and... I also bought some power, I got a dual 3-500Z Eimac tubes,
separate-power-supply, really-good-looking desktop DRAKE L-7 capable of 1300W
(1,3kW key-down) of FURIOUS QRO POWER which looks as if it was just taken out of
the box! -love my Amp.-, but thats not all; meanwhile, I put up a 20 mts high tower (top of
it at 35mts of the street level) with heavy duty rotator, got a brand-new KLM
KT-34XA (6el fullsize for 10, 5el linear-loaded for 15 and 20, dual-driven, on a
10mt-long-boom) tri-band yagi with re-inforcement kit for extreme conditions and locate it @20mts high, put an EXTENDED dipole
for 80mts @20mts, a temporary dipole for 40mts @15mts, a 4el monoband fullsize
yagi for 10mts fixed north manually -or rope-ally, in fact :-) pointable between
EU/NA
@10mts high, a 5el monoband fullsize yagi for 6mts fixed north @16mts high, a
20mts ground plane with 16 radials at ground level, verticals and 2el vert.
polarized yagi for VHF, a 1,5kW DRAKE LPF, two 25Amp high quality Power
Supplies, GBR headset, home-adapted Professional footswitch, BENCHER BY-2
Paddle, bought 100mts of good coax, got a 4 antenna high
power -3kW at least- remote coax switch and some more things and now I got a
very decent station for being only 18, Im really happy and proud of my
station, but I also realize I only have it because I spent every single cent
that I had in it, not a cent since I was 12 was used for anything else apart
from it. I worked hard summer, winter and during the year for 6 years -apart
from studying, etc.- in order to get
money, everyone can have a nice station, you just have to get moving - otherwise
youll get nothing. I made a very big improvement, I had nothing at first, then
got a VX-150, then an FT-2600M, then stopped bothering with the VHF, sold
everything and got my first real rig, the faithful lil ALINCO DX-70TH, which
gave me very nice QSOs, then sold it, got some extra money and bought a TS-850S
with DSP-100, then sold it and got MORE money and bought the FT-1000MP, I think
Im gonna keep this radio, I LOVE IT!. In a year I upgraded from the lil
ALINCO and two dipoles hanging from the trees to everything I have right now. Thats big.
My
plans -short term
ones at least- include
constructing a vertical for 80mts -1/4 wave fullsize-, buying a Cushcraft 2el
40mts yagi -Im lacking very little money and I get it!- and getting up a 160mts
inverted L with a 20mts vertical part... Long term plans include lots of
things, from a new tower or two -one 30mts tall and the other 15mts- rotatable
dipole for 80mts, 4el yagi for 12/17mts w/rot. dipole for 30, to the dream
station! :-) Every ham dreams of a dream station...
I like to work
DX and
take part in some of the major International Contests (CQWW, CQWW WPX,
ARRL, ARRL 10, RUSSIAN DX, ALL-ASIA, etc), Im mostly active in 6, 10,
15, 17, 20, 40, 80 and 160mts.
Im member of WWYC
-WorldWide Young Contesters- a very nice and united Club for contesters under
30yrs, and also member of LU8YE, my local Radio Club.

some Pop artists.
I like to practice Outdoor Sports (I practice Free-Ski, Rappel, some Ice climbing, I swim, Snorkel, do a little MTB, and a little Downhill, Camp, Canoeing, Trekking, Tirol, Snowshoeing, all kinds of
Fishing, etc.).
I study in a technical school for Electro-mechanical Technician. Im in
the last year out of 6. I plan to study for Telecommunications Engineer. I also study
to enhance my First Aid and CPR.
I also like to study English, I have my First Certificate in
English of the Cambridge University passed with an A, and my Certificate in
Advanced English from the same University also passed. This year or the next one
I plan to sit for the Certificate in Proficiency English.
In
the winter I work teaching little kids from 3 to 8 years old from a local Club to
ski in the Chapelco Ski Resort, I really have fun, I Love KIDS!!!

some Adventure Races and every outdoor job I can get, I enjoy being in contact
with nature, I Love OUTDOORS!!!
