Little Company of Mary Radio Amateurs

Our Future Communications Van

Through the generosity of NBC and the efforts of Shannon Kendall at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Burbank, 2 retired news vans have been donated to the Providence hospitals to support emergency communications. Unit 40 is for the Providence Tarzana Medical Center and unit 23 is for the Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Centers in San Pedro and Torrance. These vans compliment the van previously donated by KTLA for Providence Holy Cross.

The NBC vans are almost identical in the way they are laid out, and they both come with a 6500w Onan Commercial Generator, a 46 foot pneumatic tower and multiple Motorola UHF and VHF commercial radios.  We are in the process of removing the old audio and video equipment and reprogramming the commercial radios. Then we will install new amateur communications equipment and to replicate the command center capability.  Our van will be an important asset to support the disaster preparedness and disaster response missions for both the Torrance and San Pedro Medical Centers.

Thank you NBC & Shannon.

Members who would be interested being a part of the work parties to retrofit the vans should contact Chris Riccardi at San Pedro.
