What went wrong this year?

Last year when we tried JP52IE the weather took us by surprise.  When arriving in JP62BB and checking the QTH in JP62BC the only problem seems to be the wind. With help from LA9IY we put up the antennas and get set in the car – ready to start the skeds at 1800 UTC.

Sunny days in the remote part off Norway is show on the picture. (…….)

During the night the wind direction changed.

We where ready for SSB, Random at 0730 UTC the 12 august. Excellent copy on 144.200. Tried to give S55AW a call. NO OUTPUT POWER.

The rain was poring down. After some cut and try we had to take down the antennas. One antenna showed infinity SWR. This took valuable time. That is the reason some was waiting and waiting on 144.227 – and no reflections. We are very sorry!

At 0945 UTC we where ready to again. But it took nearly one hour before we could complete the first QSO. I guess people have given up and moved to 144.200 or somewhere else where they could enjoy Perseid. I don’t blame them.

SO what is the comment about this – Never again? NO -  the comment is : Few stations worked this year means  we have to try again.

Valdalen (JP62BB)

Valdalen farm was the location for 6 meter operation. Indoor with 13 meter  coax - and we where ready to start operation. This QTH is not bad – even for 2 meter operation. Some trees will block your signal, but 13 meter coax solves this problem. The cottage to ask for is “JotHytta” – a cabin with 6 beds and 25 A inlet fuse – if you want to run QRO……

Martin Waldal, the owner will borrow you ladders. He can supply you with all meals – and if you ask he will take you up into the hills. A radio friendly place.

The 2 meter QTH is up the hills, only 1,5 km away from Valdalen. The road is private, and you need a key. Mats (a friend from Martin will let you borrow the key). Operation from car – and no electricity at this QTH.

Perseid.

Although we only made few QSO and Random SSB was a disaster we are pleased with the expedition. It always nice to make QSO more than 2000 km with only 180 watt and 2 x 9 el antennas. Tnx to UT5ER and I4XCC.

For those who was waiting on 144.227 and newer made it – We hope to activate JP62 again.

73 – and we will meat again
