The Romsdal Fjord

The island of Sekken, clearly visible in the far background (large dark shape) is the largest island in the township of Molde. The town of Molde is in the foreground.

Getting there

We loaded the van with all our gear and rolled aboard the local ferry early Saturday afternoon. The ferry brings us to Sekken in about 45 minutes.

The Site

We are overlooking the site of the operation and planning antenna installation

Triband Yagi

LA8PV Knut is busy assembling the yagi for 10, 15 and 20m. LA6LDA Leidulf standing by to assist.

Vertical Antenna

The vertical used for PSK31 is already up.

LA9SN Harald (right) and LA4FKA Jan assembling the four-element yagi for 20m.

Mounting the Antenna to the Mast

We left the mounting bracket for the antenna at home and had to improvise with steel bands that were bolted on to the thin mast.

Final Touch

The two-section aluminium ladder came in handy as an improvised stepladder.

The Mast

We strapped the long aluminium ladder to the thin, fragile steel mast pipe to reinforce it. This made it very easy to raise and lower the whole assembly using only two pull ropes

Ready to go

Beaming Japan
