HTMLCONV Mk6 Instructions.
A server for Winpack

HTMLCONV.EXE - Version 5 Written by G4FJQ in 1997.

This is a Winpack version 6 server that converts all outgoing mail to HTML, as long as it isn't 7plus, a cor file, or already HTML. Putting <NO> in the text of the message on a line of its own (and it must be in CAPITALS) tells it not to convert the message to HTML so you can still mail those who cannot display or do not like HTML. It removes the <NO> of course.
To install put htmlconv.exe into the c:\Winpack directory, then put the shortcut htmlconv.pif into c\winpack\servers\send directory or set-up your own shortcut to htmlconv that runs minimised and closes when done.
HTMLCONV works well on my system in Win95. It should be OK in Windows 3.1n, I have had reprts that it is fine, but I have no way to try it myself. This is an improvement on previous versions mk 5 added the use of the widely used HTMLIB library. This version adds the command <MORE>. Place this command on a line of its own and the message will apear in the message in plain text (as typed) above the HTML version. This increases the size of the file but make it readable to all.
This version does not add ^.htm to the subject line as with the advent of Winpack version 6.3 it is no longer needed.
The other new feature is (sig). Place this on a line and a signature block will replace all text if any after it. the Sig block if you MUST FIRST DEFINE yourself by editing htmlcnv6.fjq ( a file generated the first time you run htmlconv.exe) or you will get a default sig block. You will find it near the end of the file. use a editor such as notepad. You can put anything you can get on one line. Just text or HTML code.
HTMLCONV is freeware and must not be charged for or used as a give away in a sales deal. Future versions will always be free, so this will never become an advertisement, just a small free programme to add some fun into the packet radio hobby.

In the 5th upgrade onwards, I have included some commands you can imbed into the message to tell the server to add certain images from a HTMLIB directory containing images G7OCW distributed some time ago. My thanks to Diane G4XBI for the idea. I have also made the server display quoted lines (Those beginning with a > symbol.) separated and left justified i4n red. while the rest of the text is black. Imbedded commands on quoted lines will not be replaced by the image as it one doesn't alter someone else's text when quoted.
A quote server has been brought to my attention that under lines the brag saying who wrote it by doing a line feed only then a row of ______'s. This fails to display correctly. there are many other quote servers around that don't have this problem either because they don't brag or don't try to underline the brag.
Here is a list of the imbedded codes:-

HTMLCONV mark 6 has some codes you can add to your messages to include images from the HTMLIB directory that was supplied by G7OCW
This is a key to the default codes.
Including both <NO> on a line of its own tells the converter not to convert to this message to HTML. It just removes the <NO>
Including both <BOTH> on a line of its own tells the converter to include the message in plain text above the HTML version in the same message,
A paragraph break that needs no image can be added with (st)

(tick) =(tick) image$(1) = "..\htmlib\rdcheck.gif"
(g*) =(g*) image$(2) = "..\htmlib\stargd.gif"
(s*) =(s*) image$(3) = "..\htmlib\starsv.gif"
(b*) =(b*) image$(4) = "..\htmlib\starbz.gif"
(*) =(*) image$(5) = "..\htmlib\web013a.gif"
() =() image$(6) = "..\htmlib\disk.gif"
:-) =:-) image$(7) = "..\htmlib\anismile.gif"
(st1) =(st1) image$(8) = "..\htmlib\strip1.gif"
(st2) =(st2) image$(9) = "..\htmlib\bar-1.gif"
(ok) =(ok) image$(10) = "..\htmlib\ok.gif"
(stop) =(stop) image$(11) = "..\htmlib\stop.gif"
(hand) =(hand) image$(12) = "..\htmlib\stophand.gif"
(env) =(env) image$(13) = "..\htmlib\envelope.gif"

You can alter these and define another 11 yourself by editing the file it generates called htmlcnv6.fjq if you wish.

If the station you are sending to doesn't have the HTMLIB directory containing the images then there is no point adding these as they will just cause the browser to show the missing picture icon. if the background image isn't present at the other end then it will default to a toned down yellow (Changeable in the config file.) so just by not using the imbedded commands a respectable page can be sent to anyone using HTML.

Note:
Anyone not having the full set of images can make a directory off the Winpack directory called HTMLIB and copy the JPG and GIF files from the zip file this HTML page came from. This will be all that is required to get the full benefit when receiving messages sent with this server (As long as the HTMLCNV5.FJQ is not altered at the senders end.

This new version generates a configuration file called HTMLCNV5.FJQ which can be altered in any editor such as Notepad in Windows or EDIT in DOS. The lines starting with a semicolon are there as a guide and are not used by the programme. Those with a knowledge of HTML can alter these parameters allowing some personalisation of the result. Should you mess up then just delete HTMLCNV5.FJQ and the next time the server runs it will make a new one containing its defaults.

The usual disclaimers. If this programme should mess up your computer or your life, don't come
running to me. Use at your own risk.
