Prayer Letter January 2001

Dear Praying Friends:
I want to thank you for praying for my Grandmother as we had mentioned her in a previous letter. She was diagnosed with cancer last spring. The Lord was gracious to us in allowing her to be with us this long. She went home to be with the Lord on January 8, 2001. It was truly a precious time. Most of the family had been gathered for several days prior to her homegoing. We cried, sang, laughed (my family can't keep from it), and even had a pizza party in her hospital room. I was privileged to be at the hospital when she passed away a little before 3:00 that morning.
Before she lost consciousness she was a testimony to the hospital staff. We cried for the loss of her presence with us, but not for the loss of her soul.

I mention this to say how sweet the homegoing of a Christian can be. While we were with her for three days before her death, we heard the death of others on the same floor of the hospital. I say heard because of the screaming of family members when their loved one slipped away from them. It was more heart wrenching to me to hear their anguish over an uncertain eternity, than to see my own Grandmother taken to be with the Lord.

Do you have family members who are not saved? Could your friends go through a time like this with such peace? I have a more urgent desire to tell others about the Lord because of this special time. We need to give our friends, family, and even people we do not know the opportunity to be able to go out into eternity with an assurance that they can be with our Lord.

I was speaking with a friend this morning telling him how the Lord has provided for us, even during this time. God knew our schedule and Grandma's schedule. He worked out all the details to change ours for the better.

We had our "birfday" cake for Jesus' birthday. (This is in reference to December's letter.)

We are up to 20% of our needed support. It is thrilling to us the many meetings that we have scheduled in the next few months. Pray for us that we will have wisdom in scheduling more and that our support level will continue to rise.

In April we have an opportunity to visit Merida, Mexico. This is the city that we are considering to be the first in which we will work. Funds will need to be raised for the trip. Our sending church is making our trip a special project for their Mission's conference. We do not know if all of the money will be raised during that week. Pray that it will, or that the Lord would provide through other means. We would be glad to have you participate in this project. All checks should be written to Calvary Baptist Church with the note that it is for our Merida trip. Our estimates are that the trip will cost between $1200 and $1500.

Thank you much, and continue to pray that the Lord will soon get us on the field with the Deaf.

Sincerely,

David and Stephanie Peach
