What are Q signals?
Q signals are "shortcuts", each of which have a special meaning and can help "speed" things up on the net. For a list of Q signals go to my
Q Signal Page

How do I check in?
MSN will begin each session with an established preamble:

CQ CQ MSN MSN DE (NCS Callsign) MSN is the Maryland Slow Net which meets here on 3717 at seven thirty pm. The purpose of this net is to handle traffic and to train traffic handlers. MSN MSN QND QNZ VVV QNN (NCS Callsign) MSN QNI K

Once the preamble is complete, the Net Control Station (NCS) waits to hear a letter of the alphabet. If you want to check in, send ONE letter of your suffix (I send an "S") If the NCS repeats that letter, it's your invitation to check-in.

A typical check-in for a first time station would be:
DE (your Callsign) / (your name). QTH is (Your City and State) QRU K

Now What?
Once you have checked-in, the NCS will welcome you and ask if you want Training. If you do, answer "yes". The NCS will then call another station in the net to meet you on frequency. Once it is established that you and the other station can hear each other, you will be asked to "move" up or down the frequency to continue your training.

Example: "KT4ST and KC3Y up three for welcome". This means that KT4ST and KC3Y should move "up" three KHZ and re-establish contact with each other. Once they have made contact, KC3Y will send a welcome message to KT4ST.

Hope to see you on MSN soon. Til then Best 73 ...
