    Born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1926 and reared in North Carolina, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and (mostly) in northern Ohio. Married Irene Jeanette Murray on Sept 4, 1948 in Greenwich, Ohio, her home town. Had two daughters, both of whom live nearby in the area, and four grandchildren plus two great-grandchildren.

    Started transportation career with Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (BO) in 1942 as Freight House Trucker and Tallyman, and Telegraph Operator. Between 1942 and 1956, served on the BO Akron (OH) Division in additional capacities of Train Dispatcher, Chief Grain Dispatcher, Assistant Trainmaster and General Yardmaster.

    Served in U.S. Navy as Radioman in Asiatic-Pacific area 1944-1946. Is a 1953 graduate of the University of Akron, BS degree in Business and took post-graduate courses at several universities as well as other business and transportation industry courses and seminars.

    This is my station. Note the emphasis on CW. Possibly many of you have never seen (or heard) the "Prince Albert" can clicker.

    In 1966 joined Lehigh Valley Railroad (LV) in Bethlehem, PA as General Superintendent with management of the Transportation Department. Was appointed Superintendent of the Lehigh and Hudson River Railway (LHR) at Warwick, NY in 1967 and the following year was elected President and General Manager of the carrier with overall corporate responsibility. Served as Special Consultant to the Trustee and Estate of LHR between 1974 and 1986.

    In 1974 became Chief of Railroad Planning for R.L. Banks & Associates, Inc. (RLBA) in Washington, D.C., serving as project leader and participant in numerous activities in the US and Canada

    Joined Genesee and Wyoming, Inc. (GWI) of Greenwich, CT -- a parent concern of short line railroads and other rail-related companies -- where was involved in all aspects of the company's operation as Senior vice-president, Operations. Additionally served as President and head of two short lines: North Country Railroad and Rochester & Southern. In June 1986 was elected Executive Vice President of GWI.

    Traveled extensively on business and pleasure throughout the U.S. as well as Canada, Central and South America, Europe, the Mid-East and the Orient. In September 1986 retired to Raleigh, NC and formed WGM Transportation Associates (WGMTA), a sole proprietorship for railroad consulting (now inactive.) Relocated in July 2000 to the Windsor Point Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.

    Am an active in a number of organizations, including Morse Telegraph Club, Inc., Raleigh Amateur Radio Society (RARS) and Masonic bodies.
