"Don't Trouble Trouble...Lest Trouble Troubles You."

Ham Radio

I have been interested in radio and things electronic, including computers, for as long as I can remember. I put off getting into Ham radio until March 2008. After attending the Portsmouth VA Hamfest, I was again motivated. At this time I was given the name of Sam, KT4QW as a person to contact for help. Sam was the perfect person to get me started in the hobby. On the first visit to his shack he set the hook and began to advise me on how to obtain the license I needed. He even loaned me a radio to listen to, no talking at this time. His advice was to listen and learn. Over the next eight weeks I studied and tested for Tech and General class. In September at the VA Beach Hamfest I took my Extra class test. Next it is listen and learn, more. The Ham breakfast club gave me great advice in what equipment I needed to buy and lots of antenna info.

Family and Work
I was born 1946 and was raised around Huntington, WV. I served my four years in the Navy in the mid 1960's Most of that time was spent in the "Gator Freighters" as a Storekeeper. By the time I was discharged, I was married and had a son and a daughter on the way. I took a job with the telephone company. While in this business, I was in the electrical apprentice program and achieved Master status after graduation. I also attended Ashland College with a major in Business and Marshall University Fire Science Technology program.

Late in the 1970's, I went to work at Newport News VA in the shipbuilding industry. I was employed in the Quality Inspection department where I have worked as inspector, inspection supervisor and presently a Senior Analyst.
