This link used to go to Earth Magazine but due to apparent lack of advertising support it has ceased publication. This is a real tragedy to those who devoured the magazine from cover to cover every other month when it came through the door. Earth science is extremely important these days. How can we save our planet if we're too cheap to study it?? And now I see that the old link to the Earth Mag. Page is out of publication also....Can't even afford the web space to say, "We're gone now. Sorry"....
To quote George Carlin, "The Planet is fine people....The planet's not going anywhere.....WE ARE!!!! So pack your bags folks, we're goin' on a trip...."
It was rather obvious that the skimpy publication was on thin ice. Skimpy on advertisement but not on content. Kalmbach Published it as well as others -- including Astronomy (fat with advertisements) -- and probably absorbed losses on the basis of advertising dollar inputs and the continued publication was untenable to the stockholders (much less the editors, management and existing advertisers).
Please write to Earths former publishers, Kalmbach Publishing Company, 21027 Crossroads Circle, Waukesha Wi 53186-4055 and express to them the sadness and if you can find an old issue, write to some of the advertisers thanking them for their support of Earth information and Science.
Astronomy on the other hand appears to be rather healthy. Many advertising dollars spent to reach those of us who gaze into the heavens.
Now the obvious question.....Why do we pay more advertising dollars to support a publication about Space than we are willing to pay in advertising support for a publication studying our own home??
I don't know, but I find it rather sad.
Don't get me wrong. I subscribe to Astronomy. I'm a dreamer also, but I also have dreams for my planet and those dreams are just not issues in Astronomy Magazine (and rightly so I might add!!).
