I am 59 years old, born and raised in Hamden, Connecticut. When I was 13 I got interested in electronics and got my novice, and then, general license as an Amateur Radio Operator. My call sign in those days was W1JCS. A photo of my early days in ham radio is shown:W1JCS circa 1957 in CT.

As you see, I enjoyed DX even then and making contacts and collecting QSL cards from all over the world.

Going away to college interrupted my ham radio activity. I went off to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where I got my degree in Chemistry and then went to Albany Medical College where I earned my Ph.D. in Pharmacology. After schooling I joined a pharmaceutical company in Research Triangle Park, NC, Burroughs Wellcome Co., where I enjoyed 26 great years until retirement in 1995.

In 1986 I decided to get back to ham radio. I was living in Raleigh, NC at that time and retook the novice test and became KB4URZ. What an amazing change had taken place in the 30 years since I had been away from the hobby. I immediately became very active and soon upgraded to advanced class with the call on KN4UG. A more recent picture of me, KN4UG, on a recent trip to the Caribbean is below:
