KH5 - JARVIS ISLAND, OC-081
Several sources have reported that Radio Expeditions Inc, the organizer
of the record-breaking VP6DX DXpedition to Ducie Island in 2008, is
planning a DXpedition to Jarvis Island (OC-081) in November 2010.
Depending on weather and sea conditions the approximate dates for this
operation are between Nov 17 and Dec 1. Dates were chosen to maximize
propagation openings on both the lower bands (160m-80m) and the high
bands (12m-10m) to Europe, where demand for KH5 is extremely high. The
planning for this project began over one year ago and applications for
the required permits to land on the island have been submitted to the
US Fish & Wildlife Service. However, the final approval has not yet
been received. The DXpedition team plans to have 24-25 operators to man
12 stations on 160m-6m using CW, SSB and RTTY (no 60m operations are
planned). Entering the CQWW CW Contest is also included in their plans.
Sea transportation will be provided by the "MV Braveheart" - which
supported also other DXpeditions before. We will keep you informed
about this DXpedition.

resident radio and electronics technician for HF, VHF, the WX station,
the Hydrogen generator, IT LAN, the satellite system and all the other
smaller systems. Starting around May 5 he will show up as ZS8M for one
year. He arrived on the island on Apr 15 but was very busy with other
important things. Due to the heavy storms and to protect the local
birds he will use only dipoles. Since he is allowed only 100 kg private
luggage Pierre took only a small amplifier to the island. During his
little spare time Pierre will be active mostly in SSB but also in RTTY
on 160m-2m - he does not work in CW. Please listen for him especially
on 14240 kHz. Unfortunately the QSL cards can be sent only direct to:
