Device
shown is a three-axis induction coil magnetometer, which is a one-of-a-kind
prototype by Conix Research. The
instrument is on loan to our group from Dr. Jack Dea.
We have used this instrument on three field trips, with mixed or inconclusive results. Our objective in each case was to demonstrate that we could ascertain the Schumann resonance…a Dea criteria that establishes adequate sensitivity for the earthquake signals.
We
are also developing plans to build our own magnetometers from more modern
amplifiers now available.
The
work that Jack Dea has done as a Physicist for the U.S. Navy is briefly
introduced in the next slide.
