COMPLETED PROJECT

The car was finally completed in mid-June 2001.  After hooking up with a retired LAPD Sergeant and many others,  I was able to obtain the actual emergency switch panel and lighting control box.  These were manufactured by the LAPD Fleet Division for the 1970 series police vehicles.  We applied the decals on the weekend of June 9th, and drove the car over to another LAPD officer from the Metro Bomb Squad, who was one of the first officials to see the completed project.  I will now be working with the Los Angeles Police Historical Society in arranging the vehicle to be housed at the LAPHS Museum when it opens, or offer them the opportunity to buy it outright.

After 3 years the project has been completed.  The car is going to be making a series of tours and appearances in local venues and law enforcement collector's shows.  The car appeared at the August 2001, El Segundo Police Officer's Association "Main Street Car Show" in coordination with ESPD Officer JP Sellens, a friend and co-worker (I work for the ESFD as the City's Emergency Services Coordinator), the LA Sparks and LAPD "Safe & Sound Days" on July 1st, 2001 at Staples Center, a public safety parade in Pacific Palisades on July 4th, and the Emergency Vehicle Owner's and Operators Association (EVOOA) Annual Conference in Sparks, Nevada in September 2001.

After its all over, and a recently added full brake system rebuild at another $1000 in parts and labor in mid-July 2001, the restoration costs now exceed $14,000.00+ - the car has received offers of over $30,000 and is now appraised and insured for $35,000.00 - not bad for one of the last original LAPD fleet cars left that actually runs, and is now fully restored.

And now the pictures of the completed project:
