Jungle Tower Raising Demo'ed at 2002 Festival of the Arts

The radio station starts as nothing more than a compact green box. Left to right: Jim Wood, Nancy Peterson, Joe Peterson, Joy Barnitz, Andy Ropmeril, Doug Stinson     Attendees at Fremont's Festival of the Arts on Saturday, July 27, 2002 were treated to a number of demonstration put on by the Fremont Fire Department. The demos included:
  • Code Blue resuscitation demo
  • Vehicle Extrication  demo 
  • CERT Comm Demo
  • Truck Rappelling demo

  •      The CERT Comm demo consisted of setting up a simulated emergency radio station at a CERT IC.         Setting up the emergency communications post included  assembling a 22-foot high Jungle Tower, complete with J-Pole antenna. Tower and antenna came from the Mission San Jose district's emerency supply container. Each CERT district has an indentical tower and antenna. A crack CERT Comm team consisting of team leader Joe Peterson , safety officer Mike Fung (ARES Assistant Emergency Coordinator), Nancy Peterson, Jim Wood, Joy Barnitz and Andy Romeril had the station up and running in under 7 minutes, much to the awe of the on-lookers!
