Dharma

Dharma and Doobie are "Stumpies" (Bobtailed), but Manx come in two other flavors too, including "Rumpies", which have no tail at all (*rumpy risers have a small 'bit' of a tail), and "longies", with long tails. Manx are a rare, and a very old variety that originated on the Isle of man.

Like Bobcats, and Japanease bobtails, a mutant gene is the cause of the tailess cat, but the gene that creates the tailess Manx is a different one. Like many other 'pure bred' cats, Manx were allowed to outcross with the British, and American shorthair. The influence from the British shorthair caused the Manx to develop into a 'round' cat. Some health problems are assosiated with the Manx, but can be easily avoided if properly bred. "Rumpy to Rumpy" breedings is where the problems arise, that is why a good breeding program always uses tailed cats.

Manx are rare and VERY expensive. If you prefer a cat with papers, be prepaired to get on a waiting list, and pay a Lot. The only papers our cats have belong to this little guy

...and he just poopies on them!

Our cats are are less 'round', and more 'rangy' (like the ones that came from the island), and athletic than many 'show' Manx. A proper history of the Manx is beyond the scope of this page, however, If you're interested in reading more about the manx, buy a book from Amazon.com!
