Residential History & Immediate Family

Native of Detroit, Michigan, transplanted to Merritt Island, Florida in 1980 , a brief stay in Greenville, South Carolina, 1985, Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1986 & 1987, and back to Merritt Island, Florida, 1987 ever since. (The noise of rocket launches appears to agree with us!)

John & Pat Meet my wife, Pat. We met in 1967, married in 1971, and have two children, John & James. This is a picture of us on our 25th wedding anniversary in 1996 taken outside the church we were married in Garden City, Michigan. We celebrated our 35th anniversary on August 27, 2006. Time flies when you are having so much fun!

These are our sons John (left) and James (right) standing along side of Pat. Both John and James are graduates of Merritt Island High School, Florida. John is currently serving in the United States Navy performing Yeoman duties and stationed in Sicily. James Graduated from the University of Central Florida (UCF)  in '03 and is currently working at the Kennedy Space Center.

The Station

This is our rig, a Swan HF-700S. The output is fed to a balanced line that requires a tuner. We also use various receivers for SWL. Our favorite receiver is the Ten-Tec RX-320D. Included in the receiver collection are WW II surplus, Hallicrafters, Lafayette tube types, and homebrew concoctions.

We use two types of antennas. The first (used for the Swan) is a 135' loop. It works great on the 40 meter band. 20 meters is our favorite, though. The second antenna is a W8JK cut for 20 meters. It is primarily used for receiving. Both antennas are "housed" within the attic.
